5 local picksVereda do Larano — Boca do Risco
⭐ Access at the end of the Sea Breeze Studios street, on the Porto da Cruz side! Spectacular Atlantic views. This narrow, exposed cliff path has fall and rockfall risks and is unsuitable for vertigo sufferers. The full municipal route is generally described from Machico to Porto da Cruz; from the studios you walk in reverse or choose a shorter section. Check conditions before setting out.
PR5 — Vereda das Funduras
Starting at Portela viewpoint, explore Laurissilva forest with views over Penha d’Águia and Porto da Cruz. This is a one-way trail: plan your return transfer.
PR10 — Levada do Furado
A Laurissilva levada with excellent views over Faial and Porto da Cruz. This one-way route ends at Portela; arrange return transport.
PR11 — Vereda dos Balcões
An easy, short Laurissilva walk leading to a mountain viewpoint. Around 3 km return.
PR9 — Levada do Caldeirão Verde
Forest levada with tunnels, starting at Queimadas. Bring a torch. Check which sections are open: the continuation towards Caldeirão do Inferno may be closed.
